Social Media Metrics Plugin

I recently stumbled (ho ho!) upon a useful plugin for Google Analytics that displays social media related metrics. Such metrics include Digg, Reddit and Stumbleupon counts, and they are displayed on the Content Detail report at page level. To the left of each social media count is an interactive icon that takes you to the appropriate social bookmarking submission page passing your page as a parameter. This enables you to submit it yourself there and then.

How To Install The Social Media Metrics Plugin For Google Analytics

  1. Install Greasemonkey on your Firefox browser, if you haven’t already.
  2. Install the GA plugin (provided by vkistudios)
  3. Log in to your Google Analytics account
  4. Navigate to your Content Detail report. This is at page level and there are several different routes to it. Anywhere you see a URL displayed (for example on the initial dashboard display), click on it to see the Content Detail.
  5. Underneath the standard metrics are now displayed counts for a selection of social media sites

If your content is linkbaity, then this is the Google Analytics plugin for you.

Careful

Note that for anyone that uses the same analytics account for multiple subdomains, for example, this will not retrieve an accurate digg count for the page.
